The Contribution of Literary Books in the Prevention of Depression
Abstract
Bibliotherapy may be used in curing mild or moderate depression, as sole or supplement cure. It is a kind of guided self – help. The patient is working on his cure by using a book, independently of his/ her doctor. The role of the physician is to support and guide the patient by using a book and to aid him/ her to clarify certain concepts or to answer any questions the patient may have. The book can be purchased or borrowed from a library. The patient must be older than 12 years of age and have a positive attitude towards self help. There are no reports on serious adverse effects from bibliotherapy.
