Hospital Libraries and Accessibility for People with Disabilities: The Role of the Medical Librarians

Abstract
The aim of this paper is to denote the challenges modern medical libraries face as well as those they need to effectively tackle in order to create an accessible and welcoming environment to individuals with any kind of disabilities. Furthermore it will attempt to point out the respective role of the Medical Librarian which invariably needs to evolve and be enhanced in order to successfully recognize different cases of disabilities and address then in the context of integration and accessibility in the library space. The paper attempts to introduce the ongoing situation in terms of the social integration of disabled people in libraries and the roles of libraries concerning the needs of any disadvantaged groups.
